One-on-One Book Coaching

A creative partner for the whole journey: from first idea to finished novel.

One-on-one book coaching for fiction writers is one of the most effective ways to finish a novel, not because someone does the work for you, but because you’re finally moving in the right direction.

Writing a novel alone is hard. You’re often too close to th e story to see clearly, too deep inside the work to know what it needs, and too isolated to stay accountable when doubt creeps in.

One-on-one coaching changes that. Not by giving you a formula or a template, but by giving you a thinking partner who understands your story, asks meaningful questions, and keeps you moving forward, even when the draft gets messy and the doubt gets loud.

This is a creative partnership built around your story, your process, and your goals. We work on three levels: the story itself, your craft, and your writing process, because all three matter, and all three affect each other.

“It took me almost five grueling years to write my first book and I often said that my one wish was completing another novel before I died as if this was akin to climbing Mount Everest. But now, I’ve completed a first draft in six joy-filled months with another already brewing in my mind. I can’t recommend Karmen enough. She has truly changed my life.”

Katie Anderson, Women’s fiction / Bookclub fiction writer

How it Works

Most writers come to coaching at the beginning, with a story idea they’re serious about but not yet sure how to build. Others arrive mid-draft, stuck and spinning. Some come with a completed draft that needs a complete rethink. Wherever you are, there’s a way in.

Here’s how the journey typically unfolds:

TRACK 1: PLANNING

For writers who have a story idea and want to build it properly before they write a single scene

Before you write, we get clarity on the kind of story you want to tell. Using the Author Accelerator Blueprint method, we dig into what your story is really about, the emotional core beneath the plot, the character whose transformation drives everything, the genre expectations and your ow vision and motivation.

You’ll develop a complete Inside Outline: a living document that maps your novel from premise to final scene, giving you clarity and direction before you commit to a draft.

Planning typically takes 4–6 weeks, across approximately 2 months; enough time to go deep without losing momentum.

What’s included each month:

  • Author Accelerator Blueprint and Inside Outline materials (provided by me, tailored to your project)
  • My Character Motivation Worksheet
  • Additional submission deadlines to keep the pace
  • In-depth written feedback on each submission: what’s working, what needs more thought, and why
  • Two 60-minute coaching calls per month; one after each submission
  • Clarity on your  story’s core and your genre’s conventions and market positioning
  • Writing process guidance (how to stay consistent, handle blocks, and trust the draft)
  • Ongoing email support
  • Additional tools and resources where relevant

“I had the perfect idea for a crime novel — or so I thought. Working with my book coach, Karmen, showed me the strengths and weaknesses of my story idea. With her guidance, I developed a much stronger foundation for writing forward. I’ve never done so much work before actually starting to write a story, but I’m glad I did. Being coached by Karmen has significantly enhanced my understanding of this particular story and improved my writing skills.”
Anne F Hag, Mystery writer

TRACK 2: WRITING

For writers who have a solid outline and are ready to draft or who are mid-draft and need support to keep going

Once your Blueprint is complete, we move into the draft. You submit pages, I read them closely and respond with developmental feedback – not line edits, but story-level insight into what’s working, what’s missing, and how to keep the emotional thread alive as the story builds.

Writing process support is woven into every session, because knowing what to write and actually sitting down to write it are two very different challenges, and both deserve attention.

What’s included each month:

  • Two biweekly page submissions (up to 20 pages per submission / 40 pages per month)
  • In-depth written feedback on each submission: editorial letter and inline comments with clear next steps
  • Two 60-minute coaching calls per month (one after each submission)
  • Big-picture support on character, pacing, emotional resonance, and momentum
  • Writing process guidance (how to stay consistent, handle blocks, and trust the draft)
  • Ongoing email support
  • Additional tools and resources where relevant
  • Optional add-on pages at $9/page if you’re moving faster or need more coverage

TRACK 3: REVISING

For writers who have a complete draft and want to make it the best it can be

You’ve finished a draft. Now comes the work of seeing it clearly: what’s there, what’s missing, what needs to be rethought entirely. Revision is where good stories become great ones, but it’s also where writers most often get lost without a guide.

We start with the Mini Blueprint – a focused set of materials that helps us both understand what kind of story you set out to tell, where the draft has delivered on that, and where it hasn’t yet. From there, we move into biweekly page submissions, working through the manuscript together with developmental feedback on every round.

Together, we’ll identify what’s working and build on it, address what isn’t and understand why, and develop a revision strategy that makes the work feel purposeful rather than overwhelming.

What’s included each month:

  • Author Accelerator Mini Blueprint materials at the start of the process, so we both understand the story’s foundation before we touch the pages
  • Two biweekly page submissions (up to 20 pages per submission / 40 pages per month)
  • In-depth written feedback on each submission: editorial letter and inline comments with clear next steps
  • Two 60-minute coaching calls per month (one after each submission)
  • Big-picture support on structure, pacing, character arcs, and emotional resonance
  • Writing process support (how to revise without losing your voice or your mind)
  • Ongoing email support
  • Additional tools and resources where relevant
  • Optional add-on pages at $9/page if you need more coverage
