Manuscript Assessment

Description:

You’ve worked hard to finish your novel and you want to make sure that it’s in top shape before you pitch to agents or press that ‘publish’ button. You care about your story and understand that you only get one chance to impress the reader.

The Manuscript Assessment package equips you with concrete tools and steps that help you polish your novel with confidence. Before I look at your manuscript, I ensure that I understand your vision of your story, the characters and what matters to you.

My manuscript assessment covers all the essential elements like the plot, characters and narrative drive, but also the finer details that influence how the reader will understand your story. I take on a maximum of one manuscript assessment per month.

This package includes:

  • A big picture analysis of your story’s arc and structure
  • An in-depth analysis of specific aspects (e.g. character arc and agency, narrative drive, ‘show, don’t tell’, info dumps and more) with clear, actionable steps and examples
  • An extensive and detailed editorial letter highlighting your manuscript’s strengths and areas of improvement (7 + pages)
  • Tools and strategies to approach revision
  • Clarity on your story’s shape, genre and market
  • A 60-minute coaching call on Zoom to discuss my feedback and your next steps
  • Additional resources (when applicable), templates and exercises to help move your story to the next level
  • A professional who will support and challenge you in writing the best story possible

How it works

I perform a thorough analysis of the entire manuscript, highlight its strengths and address potential structural issues, weaknesses and parts that lack clarity. I look at the story and the characters, making sure that your novel has legs to stand on and the characters are fully fledged and drive the story forward.

I sum up my findings and recommendations in an editorial letter and provide concrete examples to improve your manuscript along with actionable steps to help you move forward. After you receive the editorial letter, we’ll schedule a 60-min Zoom call to discuss my feedback, your next steps and address your questions or concerns.

Who it's for:

You’ll get the most value out of this service if your novel is complete and polished. If you want to self-publish or pitch to an agent or publisher, a developmental edit can make a world of difference.

Who it's not for:

If your novel is still in the first draft, then this package isn’t a good fit. For tips to revise, check out my blog posts on the topic.
